Koh Nang Yuan
A tiny blog on a tiny island. Koh Nang Yuan is a tiny island close to Koh Tao in Thailand. Koh Tao is referred to as the divers island. An island where it is more quiet in comparison with the surrounding islands such as Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan, where the full moon parties take place. On the island Koh Tao, there are sufficient possibilities to get your Paddi or do a divers course. Another adventure to go on Koh Tao is a day trip to Koh Nang Yuan.
Day trip Koh Nang Yuan
Picture: Koh Nang Yuan from the lookout point
The island is very close to Koh Tao, however it is an even more secluded place in comparison with Koh Tao. However, many tourists will take this day trip, so it is likely that the beaches will be full upon arrival. Nevertheless, a true gem in Thailand.
What to do at Koh Nang Yuan
Well, not much! Just sit back and relax. Swim a little, rent a beach chair with an umbrella and enjoy the surroundings.
The island, as small as it is, does have two restaurants where you can get a bite to eat. However, don’t picture a romantic getaway place, it is more mass service during the day.
Hike up to the viewpoint
If you are feeling energetic, you can climb the stairs on one of the hills to enjoy the beautiful views (see picture above).
Surrounding Koh Nang Yuan there are several great spots for snorkeling. The water is very clear, in fact, you do not need a snorkel to see the fish.
Nang Yuan Dive Resort Hotel
Yes, there is one hotel on the island. We did not spend the night there, but we can imagine that spending time on the island before or after the day trippers arrive can be quite nice. Especially if you are out during the day diving or snorkeling anyway. Day trippers are not allowed on the island before 9 am.
How to get there
Via a boat from Koh Tao. There are different travel agencies that offer day trips to Koh Nang Yuan. You can book on the spot. We have not experienced that you have to book the trip in advance. Typically, there should be space on the boat every day.
You will need to pay a fee of 100 Baht to enter the island. Furthermore, renting a beach chair will cost 75 Baht. Obviously, the food is a little more pricy than on the mainland, but that is to be expected when going to any island.
